This last Wednesday (4 March 2009) members of the Sebokeng Community Policing Forum (CPF) murdered community activist Teboho “Diventsha” Tsotetsi at his home in Zone 20. These out of control CPF members had been stealing from, harassing and beating up community residents/activist for some time and Teboho - who was a victim of their criminal behaviour- had earlier laid charges against them at the local police station. He paid with his life.
On Thursday, the Radical Youth Network (alongside the APF) demanded that the Sebokeng police take immediate action to locate, arrest and charge those responsible. By Friday, one person had been arrested and charged. He is due to appear at the Sebokeng Magistrates Court tomorrow (Monday 9 March). The RYN, APF and Zone 20 residents will be marching to the court to demand the following:
The denial of bail to the suspect
The immediate suspension of all CPF activities in the community
The role of community residents themselves in crime prevention and safety be affirmed and recognised
