Residents March for Employment Against Undemocratic (nepotism and corruption) African National Congress Ward Councilor in Ward 50 (Doornkop Extension 4)

Residents demand jobs and not a demand to join the ANC

Friday 14 December 2007

The Concerned Residents of Doornkop will be staging a march on the 15th November 2007 to deliver a memorandum of grievances to the Construction Company where construction is under way in Doornkop Extension 4.

This comes after the employment of many African National Congress card carrying members in the community and the exclusion of other community members who are not recognized by the Community Liaison Officer (an ANC ward council member) who was elected into the position in dubious fashion. The community has welcomed the developments taking place in the community but want the local ward committee to be fair and democratic in their practices. As a way to show that they are willing to engage and understand certain protocols, they have taken their grievances to local ward committee, the construction site manager Steve Setter and also to the Johannesburg Council Chambers with little results to resolve the situation.

It is clear to the community of Ward 50 that projects are used by the ANC to win the support of the community as the Ward Councilor together with her cronies elect each-other on party basis (nepotism and corruption). This type of action has angered the residents and many are marching to demand that the project stops so that democracy can reign in the area because such behavior can’t be tolerated by the community as it is tolerated in National Government structures.

The residents will gather at the Doornkop Extension 4 Taxi Rank in Azaliya Road Soweto @ 09h00 then march to the two construction site in the area.
