On Thursday the 30th of October 2008, Earthlife Africa Jhb and the Anti-Privatisation Forum will be marching on the Department of Minerals & Energy, Eskom, and the City of Johannesburg. Communities across Gauteng are protesting to demand a decent, meaningful Free Basic Allocation of electricity and for increased generation of electricity from renewable resources.

The National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA) will hold a public hearing on Friday (23/05/08) on the proposal by Eskom to increase tariffs by 53%. The Anti Privatisation Forum attended the Energy Summit on the 16th May 2008 and the ongoing NERSA Public Hearings on the 23rd & 27th May 2008 in regards to ESKOM’s proposed 53% tariff increase. It is clear that these processes were necessary to find a common solution to the current energy crisis in the country so that there could be a common vision.
