Angry Residents in Orange Farm take the Golden Highway to demand basic services

THERE IS NO PEACE WITHOUT DEVELOPMENT

More than 1500 residents organised by the Orange Farm Water Crisis Committee took to the streets in the early hours of Monday morning, 12 May 2008, to blockade traffic on the Golden Highway. Police opened fire with rubber bullets injuring at least seven demonstrators

Deadly Tap Water Kills close to 80 babies in the Eastern Cape

The Ukhahlamba municipality in the Eastern Cape hesitates to attribute the deaths of 80 babies to the water quality it provides. When the APF visited Elinge in the area in October 2007, a burst sewer pipe had contaminated the water and five people had already died from water-borne diseases.
